The best beaches in Tunisia for summer 2026
Tunisia has more than 1,300 kilometres of Mediterranean coast. We picked the beaches that justify the trip in summer 2026, and the easiest way to get to each.

Tunisia stretches over 1,300 kilometres of Mediterranean coast, from the wild forests of Tabarka in the north to the pale dunes of Djerba in the south. For visitors planning a summer trip in 2026, the choice can feel overwhelming. This shortlist focuses on beaches that combine clean water, good infrastructure and real local character.
Sidi Bou Said and La Marsa
Closest to the capital, the beaches stretching from La Marsa to Gammarth are the easiest summer escape from Tunis. The water is clean, the cafés are walkable from the sand, and a Rumble taxi from downtown takes about 25 minutes outside of rush hour.
Hammamet and Yasmine Hammamet
Hammamet is the most family-friendly beach destination on the coast. The bay is wide, the slope into the water is gentle, and Yasmine Hammamet has the marina, the souk and most of the larger resorts. Plan around 70 minutes from Tunis-Carthage airport.
Djerba
If you want the postcard image of Tunisia, white-sand beach, palm trees, flat turquoise sea, head to Djerba. Sidi Mahres and Aghir are the most popular stretches; the western side near Sidi Yati is quieter and better for families with small children.
Mahdia and Monastir
The Sahel coast often gets overlooked in favour of Hammamet, which is a mistake. Mahdia has long, uncrowded sand beaches and a beautiful old medina that walks straight into the harbour. Monastir is more compact but has the Ribat fortress and the marina.
Tabarka and the north coast
For something different, head north-west to Tabarka. The coast here is rocky and wooded, the diving is the best in Tunisia, and the summer jazz festival is one of the most relaxed cultural events on the Mediterranean. Pair it with a day at the cork-forest beach of Cap Serrat.
Quick comparison
- Closest to Tunis: La Marsa, Gammarth (25-40 min).
- Best for families: Hammamet, Sidi Yati in Djerba.
- Best for nightlife: Yasmine Hammamet, Sousse.
- Best for nature and diving: Tabarka, Cap Serrat.
- Best old-town-by-the-sea: Mahdia, Monastir.
Tunisia is one of the few Mediterranean destinations where you can have an authentic medina morning and a quiet beach afternoon, in the same day, for a fraction of the European price.
